Creativity Kid

Once upon a time at Devonshire Infant School there was a little boy. He was quite shy and didn’t like to put his hand up, even when he knew the answer to a question. He had lots of really good ideas in his head but he was worried that if he told anyone about them the other children would laugh or might not think they were very good.

At home the little boy loved creating things. He had made up his own song which he sang all the time. He also loved art and was really proud of a painting he had done, which his mum had put on the wall in his bedroom.

One day at school the teacher told the class they would be writing a story. The little boy loved using his imagination to think up stories and was really looking forward to the challenge.

When the children had finished writing the teacher asked if anyone would like to read their story to the class. Lots of children put their hands up. The teacher let three children read. The first two stories were good and the other children liked them. The little boy put his head down. His story was different to the others. He had used his imagination and was really pleased with his idea but now he was embarrassed because it didn’t sound the same as the others.

Suddenly the little boy heard the teacher saying his name! She wanted him to read his story! Oh no he could feel his face getting all red.

The little boy read his story. When he got to the end he was amazed to hear all the children clapping. The teacher was so pleased with him!

“I really like your story”, she said “you have used your imagination and it is really creative”.
Hmm, the boy liked being called creative. He felt so proud!

The next day when it was time for art the little boy confidently painted a pirate. He mixed his own colours and used his imagination to create the picture. It wasn’t the same as all the others, but he knew that was ok. It was good to think of different ways to do things.

The teacher said “you really are a Creativity Kid!”

From that day on the little boy was no longer shy about putting his hand up and sharing his ideas. Whatever he was learning, he always used his imagination and tried to think or unusual ways of doing things. He really was a ‘Creativity Kid’.
