Summer Term 2021 |
Art Week- MonetThe YR children studied Monet during Art week and learn about his style of painting and his love of lily ponds. The children used a variety of techniques to recreate their own lily pond and embellished their work with tissue paper to create the lily petals. The children then created a dance with ribbons to represent the water. |
My dog sighsThe Key stage 1 children learnt about the artist ‘My dog sighs’. They looked at the pictures of the art around Portsmouth and went out of school to visit a local picture. They then created their own work in the style of ‘My dog sighs’, using the skills of drawing, and paint blending. They use a mixed medium of paint, drawing and cutting paper to recreate the style. |
DucklingsQuack, Quack Quack! This is what we could hear when our ducklings hatched from their eggs. We had 5 ducklings and we watched them hatch all wet and soggy, dry out to become fluffy yellow ducklings which were able to swim very easily in a very short time. It was so much fun to watch them swim in our little indoor pools! |
Shape constructionSome of our Year 2 children have been learning lots about the properties of shapes and have learnt about the vocabulary needed to describe shapes such as face or vertices. They had fun using cocktail sticks and mini marshmallows to build 3D shapes, but some marshmallows disappeared! |
WaterOur Year 2 children learned about water, how precious it is and how it is used in religious rituals. The also thought about the water in our taps and performed an experiment to work out the best way to make our water clean. |
Mini BeastsOur next topic was all about mini beasts. The children loved learning about the Hungry Caterpillar and we watched some real caterpillars go into cocoons and develop into butterflies. We the let them fly free to have their best life. We also studied some snails and ladybirds and the children were fascinated by the trails the snails left behind. |
