Spring Term 2021

Although we had a very different start to the year, we have enjoyed a variety of topics both at home and at school.

Fairy Tales

We started the year by looking at the features of fairy tales. We learned the Gingerbread Man and Little Red Riding Hood.

We acted them out, studied the different characters and then wrote sentences using our Year 1 key writing skills.

Neil Armstrong

After that we found out about the life of Neil Armstrong and how he contributed to space travel.

We learnt lots of facts about space and the Apollo 11 mission and also found out about the other planets in the solar system.

The Polar Regions

It was great fun finding out about the Polar Regions.

We learned about the climate and the physical properties of both places and the different animals that live there.

We all really enjoyed finding the best way of rescuing a gummy bear (or alternative) from an ice cube.

Lots of children found very inventive ways of doing this at home.

Spring

Once we were all back at school we looked closely at the changing seasons, focusing on Spring.

We talked about the weather and how the environment changes. We wrote our own poems about what we had found out.

Castles

In the last fortnight we have begun to look at the topic ‘Castles’.

We started this by being historical spies and trying to work out who would have lived in such a grand place and why.

We found out about the parts of a castle and made a tower with a turret and a joining wall.
