Spring Term 2023

Circus Week

Another busy term in Year two! It started with another fantastic Circus week with Circus Steve and his Shooting Stars Circus.

The children enjoyed learning new skills and being able to balance on beams, spin plates and juggle!

The Great Fire of London

Year 2 took a blast into the past for our History and English topic, The Great Fire of London.

The children learned all about how the fire started and why so many people were able to escape through drama, reading books and singing songs.

They then planned and wrote diary entries to retell what happened during the 4 day fire.

Fire Safety

As we were learning about the GFOL, we were lucky enough to be visited by two firefighters who gave a lesson to the Year 2 children about how fire safety has changed through the decades, what is included on the fire trucks and how to keep safe at home.

We learned a new fire song and the children were brilliant at learning a fire safety poem using makaton!

We finished the session with a little competition between Miss Sliwinksi and a pupil on who could get into their fire safety uniform the fastest.

Of course our lovely pupil won! The children then made excellent links between what they had learned and applied this to their English lessons

Yayoi Kusama – Art

Year 2 enjoyed learning all about the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama and her special technique of using polka dots to create art.

We enjoyed researching her worldwide work which includes infinity rooms, 3D billboards and her drawings and sculptures.

The children then recreated her art by sketching and painting a polka dot drawing based on how they were feeling at the time.
